The eighteenth-century Bourbon royal palace survives largely intact, housing its original royal porcelain collections and an extensive painting collection that includes major Renaissance and Baroque works, together with its surrounding park and gardens. It is a state museum administered by Italy's Ministry of Culture. The museum and its grounds are open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Museo di Capodimonte
Charles of Bourbon, king of Naples, built the Capodimonte palace in the mid-eighteenth century as a hunting lodge to house the Farnese art collection he inherited from his mother. Later Bourbon and Savoy rulers used it as a royal residence. In the twentieth century it opened to the public as a major art museum.
