The site preserves the ruins of the Roman town of Munigua, including its terraced hillside sanctuary, forum remains, bath buildings, sections of the town walls, and a necropolis, most reduced to foundations and partial walls. It is managed by the regional government of Andalusia as an archaeological site. The ruins are open to the public, generally on a ticketed basis.
About Munigua, near Seville
Munigua began as an Iberian and Turdetanian hill settlement near Seville before becoming a Roman town whose wealth rested on iron and copper mining. Under the Flavian emperors it became a municipium and built a monumental terraced sanctuary in a Hellenistic style. The town declined by the third century as its mines were exhausted.
