About Morella Historic Town
A walled hilltop town in the Maestrazgo region, Morella grew around a Muslim-era fortress later expanded by Christian rulers following the thirteenth century Reconquista of the area. Its fortifications and castle controlled trade and mountain routes between Aragon and the Mediterranean coast. Morella prospered as a fortified market and textile town for centuries.
