The site preserves the ruined church, cloister, and chapter house of a former Cistercian monastery, standing in a partially roofless state amid the surrounding nature park of waterfalls and grottoes, with part of the monastic complex adapted as a hotel. It is privately owned and operated as a combined historic and natural park. The monastery ruins and park are open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Monasterio de Piedra
The Monasterio de Piedra was founded in 1194 by Cistercian monks from the abbey of Poblet, on land granted by the king of Aragon in Nuévalos. The community built the monastery beside the Piedra River, harnessing its waters and surrounding waterfalls for milling and irrigation. The abbey functioned as a center of Cistercian religious life in Aragon.
