About Mission del Apostol Santiago
Mission del Apóstol Santiago was one of nine missions founded in the Big Bend country in 1683 and 1684 under Franciscan direction. Franciscan missionaries maintained it to convert and administer to the Jumano, Julimes, and other Indigenous peoples of the area. It formed part of Spain's effort to extend religious authority along the northern frontier of New Spain.

One of nine missions established in the Big Bend country by Father Fray Nicolas Lopez, O.F.M., and Don Juan Dominguez de Mendoza in 1683-1684.
