About Miss Sally Thompson School Building
The Miss Sally Thompson School Building was established around 1840 as a small private schoolhouse in Anderson, Texas. Students there were taught using the Blue-Back Speller, Noah Webster's widely used American spelling primer, for a fee of three dollars a month. The school reflected the modest, tuition-based education available on the Texas frontier before public schooling.
