About Misión San Fernando Rey de España de Velicatá
Misión San Fernando de Velicatá was founded in 1769 by Franciscan friar Junípero Serra, the only mission he personally established in Baja California. It served as a waypoint for the Portolá expedition heading north to found Alta California's mission chain. The mission aimed to convert local indigenous peoples and support Spain's colonization of the peninsula.
