HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Misión de Santo Tomás de Aquino.

Only fragmentary adobe wall remains and building foundations survive from the original Dominican mission complex, with no roofed structures still standing. The ruins are protected as part of Mexico's national archaeological and historical heritage, under the general oversight of federal authorities. The site lies in open, unenclosed ground and is freely accessible to visitors.

About Misión de Santo Tomás de Aquino

The Misión de Santo Tomás de Aquino was founded by Dominican missionaries in the late eighteenth century along Spain's mission chain down the Baja California peninsula. It sought to convert local Indigenous communities and was later relocated for lack of water. It formed one of the last links in Spain's mission system in the Californias.
