Men-an-Tol survives as a small group of granite stones, a central holed stone flanked by two upright pillars, though the monument's original form and purpose remain uncertain and its present arrangement may not reflect its prehistoric configuration. It is a scheduled monument, maintained by the Cornwall Heritage Trust. The stones stand in open moorland and are freely accessible at all times.
About Men-an-Tol
Men-an-Tol was a small megalithic monument erected during the Neolithic or Bronze Age near Madron in Cornwall. It consisted of a holed stone flanked by two upright pillars, though its original purpose, whether ceremonial, funerary, or astronomical, remains uncertain. Local folklore held that crawling through the hole could cure ailments and ensure fertility.
