About Martin’s Station Site (Kentucky)

Martin’s Station was a fortified frontier settlement on Stoner Creek in Bourbon County, Kentucky. It was attacked during Henry Bird’s expedition in 1780. The former station is associated with a historic cemetery and later commemoration, distinct from Ruddell’s Station and from other sites named Martin’s Station.

The fort does not remain as an intact structure. A historic cemetery reference and later memorial provide an association with the former station, but the precise fort boundary remains uncertain. The separate Kentucky highway marker is another commemoration. Current access and the memorial’s survival require confirmation before visiting.

History happened here at Martin’s Station Site (Kentucky)

John Martin’s station formed part of the network of fortified settlements established in Kentucky. In 1780, Henry Bird’s expedition attacked frontier posts, including Martin’s and Ruddell’s stations. These were separate settlements, even though accounts often discuss them together as part of the same operation.

Kentucky’s land-office records locate Martin’s Station on Stoner Creek near Paris. Local museum interpretation associates a cemetery and memorial with the former fort, using qualified language about the footprint. The station’s history connects settlement with wartime attack and displacement. Later markers preserve the association, while cemetery boundaries, the original stockade, and the roadside monument should not be treated as one verified geographic point.
