HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park.
The park preserves the author's original wood-frame farmhouse, barn, tenant house, and citrus grove much as they stood during her residence, furnished with her own belongings rather than reconstructed. It is managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Florida State Parks as a state historic site. The grounds are open to the public, while the house itself is seen only on guided tours.
About Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park
The property centers on a nineteenth-century farmhouse and citrus grove at Cross Creek, Florida, that novelist Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings purchased in 1928 and made her home. There she wrote much of her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Yearling, drawing on rural Florida life for her fiction. The site became closely associated with Florida's literary heritage and rural agricultural life.
