About Margaret Lea Houston Home
Built in the 1830s, this house in Independence, Texas, later became the home of Margaret Lea Houston, widow of General Sam Houston. She lived there with their eight children from 1863 to 1867 following his death. The home reflects the domestic life of one of Texas's most prominent political families in the years after the Civil War.
