The site preserves extensive Roman ruins, including a theater, public baths, a basilica, a forum, sections of the city wall, and a necropolis with numerous inscribed tombstones. It is managed by Algeria's state antiquities authorities as a protected archaeological site within the region of Souk Ahras. The ruins lie in open ground and remain freely accessible to visitors touring the grounds on foot.
About Madauros (M'Daourouch)
Madauros began as a Numidian settlement before becoming a Roman town in what is now Algeria. It was the birthplace of the writer Apuleius and the place where Saint Augustine studied rhetoric in the fourth century. The town served as a center of Latin literary and rhetorical education in Roman North Africa.
