HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Lyme Regis Siege Site, Dorset.

No substantial fortifications survive from the Civil War siege of Lyme Regis, as the town's earthworks and defenses have largely been lost to later development, leaving the site marked mainly by a commemorative plaque. The site is maintained by the local town council. It lies within the town of Lyme Regis and is freely accessible to the public.

About Lyme Regis Siege Site, Dorset

The Lyme Regis Siege Site marks where Royalist forces besieged the Parliamentarian port town during the English Civil War. Led by Prince Maurice, the eight-week siege in 1644 tested the town's fortifications and the resolve of its garrison. Parliamentarian relief and naval support forced a Royalist withdrawal, keeping Lyme Regis as a base for the Parliamentary cause in the west.
