HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Locronan Historic Village.

Locronan retains its ensemble of granite Renaissance houses along cobbled streets, together with the Gothic church of Saint Ronan and its adjoining chapel. The village is protected under French historic monument and heritage site designations and is administered by the local municipality. It is a living, freely accessible town open to visitors year round.

About Locronan Historic Village

Locronan grew up around a hermitage traditionally associated with a sixth century Irish monk, Saint Ronan, though the founding legend is not historically documented. The village developed through the medieval and early modern periods into a center of sailcloth and hemp weaving that supplied ropes and canvas to Breton shipping. Its prosperity shaped its stone architecture.
