HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Linnville Raid Site.

The original Linnville townsite, largely abandoned after the raid, is commemorated with markers near present-day Port Lavaca.

About Linnville Raid Site

In retaliation for the Council House Fight, several hundred Comanche warriors swept through the port town of Linnville on August 8, 1840, looting and burning the settlement while most residents escaped by boat, in the largest Comanche raid ever to reach the Texas coast. The raid prompted Texan militia to pursue and defeat the retreating Comanche force at the Battle of Plum Creek days later.
