HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Liberty Hall Museum.
The original Livingston and Kean family mansion survives as the centerpiece of a museum and arboretum at Kean University. Furnished rooms, extensive collections, gardens, outbuildings, archives, and preserved architectural fabric interpret more than two centuries of domestic, political, and social history.
About Liberty Hall Museum
Built in 1772, Liberty Hall was the home of William Livingston, a leading Patriot and New Jersey’s first state governor. Livingston used the estate while supporting independence and mobilizing the state for war, although British threats repeatedly forced the family to leave. Alexander Hamilton, then a young student and future Continental officer, was among its early visitors. The house reflects the political leadership and domestic disruption of the Revolution.
