About Lewis L. Chiles
Lewis L. Chiles, born in Virginia in 1811, fought in the Battle of San Jacinto during the Texas Revolution and later founded the city of Caldwell. He died in 1864 and was buried in the city's old cemetery alongside his wife, Emily Hitchcock Chiles. His grave marked the town's founding generation of Texas revolutionary veterans.
