About Lewis Kraatz

Lewis Kraatz was born in Germany and served as a soldier in the Texas army during the Texas Revolution, fighting at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836. He was one of the German-born volunteers who joined the fight for Texas independence rather than remaining in the region of his birth. He died in 1857, and his service is remembered as part of the immigrant participation in the Texas independence movement.
