About Leoncita Springs
Leoncita Springs entered recorded history when the Spanish explorer Juan Dominguez de Mendoza camped there in 1684. It later served as a stage stand on the San Antonio-El Paso road through Musquiz Canyon from 1857 to 1883. A US Army camel train under Lieutenant Echols camped there in 1859, underscoring the springs' importance on this frontier route.
HISTORY HAPPENED HERE at Leoncita Springs
First known to history when Juan Dominguez de Mendoza camped here in 1684. Stage stand on the San Antonio to El Paso route through Musquiz Cañon 1857-1883. A camel train commanded by Lieut. W.H.
