HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire.
The site preserves the medieval cloisters, sacristy, and chapter house of the former Augustinian nunnery, which were incorporated into a Tudor and later Gothic Revival country house built around them. It is a Grade I listed building owned and managed by the National Trust. The abbey and its grounds are open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire
Lacock Abbey was founded in 1229 by Ela, Countess of Salisbury, as an Augustinian nunnery and functioned as a religious house for three centuries. It was dissolved in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries and converted into a country residence by the Sharington family. In the nineteenth century it hosted William Henry Fox Talbot's photographic experiments.
