The Batammariba people settled the Koutammakou region and built distinctive fortified mud tower houses known as takienta, a tradition established around the seventeenth century. Each compound combined living quarters, granaries, and shrines suited to farming and defense. The architecture and settlement pattern expressed Batammariba social organization and cosmology, and remained tied to seasonal agriculture and traditional initiation rites.
