HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Koreshan State Historic Site.

The site preserves roughly a dozen original buildings of the Koreshan Unity settlement, including the Art Hall, Founder's House, Planetary Court, and machine shop, set within landscaped grounds and gardens along the Estero River. It is managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as part of the Florida State Parks system and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The grounds are open to the public, with several historic buildings accessible on a regular or guided basis.

About Koreshan State Historic Site

Cyrus Teed, known to followers as Koresh, founded the Koreshan Unity in the 1890s and established this communal settlement at Estero, Florida, based on his belief that humanity lived inside a hollow earth. The celibate community practiced cooperative living and planned the site as the center of a great future city. Membership declined after Teed died in 1908.
