HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Kom Ombo Temple.
The dual temple to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris survives with its hypostyle hall, forecourt columns, inner sanctuaries, and much of its relief decoration intact, though its outer pylon and portions of the enclosure wall have been lost to Nile erosion. It stands under the authority of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities as a protected archaeological site. The temple is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Kom Ombo Temple
Ptolemaic rulers built this temple in the second century BCE as a double sanctuary honoring the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus. Roman emperors later added to its halls and reliefs, which include scenes of surgical instruments and calendrical texts. The temple served the fertile Nile region as a center of religious practice.
