HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Kolomoki Mounds State Historic Site.

Several earthen mounds survive, including a large platform mound and smaller burial mounds built by Woodland period Indigenous peoples, along with a museum constructed over one excavated burial mound displaying original interments in place. The site is managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources as a state historic site. It is open to the public, with the grounds and museum accessible on a ticketed basis.

About Kolomoki Mounds State Historic Site

Kolomoki Mounds was built by Woodland period Native Americans, primarily during the Swift Creek and Weeden Island cultural phases beginning around the fourth century. The complex includes a large platform mound along with smaller burial and ceremonial mounds. It served as a major ceremonial and mortuary center, among the largest Woodland era mound sites in the Southeast.
