HISTORIC PRESERVATION at King John's Palace, Clipstone, Nottinghamshire.
Only fragmentary ruins of the medieval royal hunting lodge survive, chiefly sections of standing rubble walling from the great hall and associated buildings, with much of the site reduced to buried foundations. The ruins are a scheduled monument in state protection, cared for locally by a community trust in cooperation with the county council. The site lies in open ground and is freely accessible to visitors.

King John's Palace at Clipstone was a royal hunting lodge built for the Plantagenet kings within Sherwood Forest, in use from the twelfth century as a residence during royal hunts. King John and later Edward I stayed there, and it also hosted meetings of the royal council. It served as a seat of royal administration and diplomacy in medieval England.
