About Kent Historic Village
Kent Village was founded in the early nineteenth century on the Freetown Peninsula to resettle Africans freed from intercepted slave ships after Britain outlawed the transatlantic slave trade in 1807. It formed part of the wider Sierra Leone colony, alongside earlier settlers from Britain and the Americas. The village became one of many recaptive communities along the coast.
