HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Kasbah Taourirt.
Sections of the earthen, pisé built kasbah walls and towers survive, along with a restored portion of reception rooms decorated with painted ceilings, though much of the wider complex remains in ruin. It is administered by Morocco's Ministry of Culture as a protected historic monument. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Kasbah Taourirt
The kasbah originated in the seventeenth century as a fortified residence guarding a caravan route through the High Atlas Mountains. It was later expanded into a large complex of mud-brick towers and courtyards by the Glaoui family, who used it as a residence and seat of local administration. The kasbah controlled trade in salt and gold passing through Ouarzazate.
