The house preserves its early nineteenth-century Regency-style structure and much of its original architectural detailing and furnishings, restored to reflect its appearance during the Gordon family's occupancy. It is owned and operated by the Girl Scouts of the USA and is designated a National Historic Landmark. The house operates as a museum and is open to the public on a ticketed, guided-tour basis.
About Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace
A Savannah merchant family built this Regency-style townhouse around 1818 as a private residence. Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA, was born there in 1860 and later used the house as a base for early troop meetings. The building thus became closely tied to the origins of the American Girl Scout movement.
