About John Montgomery
John Montgomery was a native of Alabama who came to Texas in 1830 with his brother Andrew. He served as a member of Captain James Gillaspie's Company during the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836, the decisive engagement of the Texas Revolution. His participation placed him among the settlers who secured Texas independence from Mexico.
