About John McNeese Graveyard
This land along La Bahia Road was granted in 1831 to the brother-in-law and sister of empresario Stephen F. Austin, part of Texas's early Anglo-American colonization. John McNeese, an 1835 settler from South Carolina, later acquired the tract and was buried on it upon his death in 1853. Deed covenants set the plot aside for McNeese family burials.

Land here on La Bahia Road was in 1831 grant to brother-in-law and sister of Stephen F. Austin. It was bought by John McNeese (1789-1853), an 1835 settler from South Carolina, whose grave is here.
