HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Jesuit Mission of La Santísima Trinidad de Paraná.
The mission preserves the roofless red sandstone walls and carved facade of its church, along with its bell tower, cloisters, workshops, and surrounding house foundations, all in ruined but largely original masonry. It is a World Heritage Site, one of the Jesuit Missions of the Guaranis, and is managed by Paraguay's national heritage authorities. The ruins lie in open ground and are open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Jesuit Mission of La Santísima Trinidad de Paraná
Jesuit missionaries founded this reduction in 1706 to gather Guarani converts into a self-sufficient Christian farming and craft community. Its large stone church and workshops made it one of the most architecturally ambitious of the Jesuit missions in the region. The mission functioned until the Jesuits' expulsion from Spanish territories in 1767, after which it declined.
