About Jesse Youens Home

Jesse Youens built this house in 1871, modeling its design on Tower Cottage, his family's earlier home in Dartford, Kent, England. The choice reflected the attachment many English immigrant settlers held to architectural traditions from their homeland. The Youens family occupied the house continuously afterward, making it a lasting marker of English influence in nineteenth century Navasota.
