HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Jerpoint Abbey.

Jerpoint Abbey preserves an extensive and well-preserved set of Cistercian monastic ruins, including the church with its central tower, cloister arcade with carved pillars, chapter house, and various domestic ranges, without a surviving roof over most structures. It is a national monument in the guardianship of the Office of Public Works. Access is by ticketed admission with a visitor center on site.

About Jerpoint Abbey

Jerpoint Abbey was founded around 1160 as a Cistercian monastery, established under the patronage of the King of Ossory and settled by monks from Baltinglass Abbey. It grew into one of Ireland's leading Cistercian houses, known for its carved cloister arcade and medieval effigies. It was suppressed in 1540 during the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII.
