About Jeff Davis County

Jeff Davis County was carved out of Presidio County and formally organized in 1887, taking its name from Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Fort Davis, already serving as Presidio County's seat since 1875, became the new county's seat of government. Its creation extended organized civil administration across this remote stretch of the West Texas frontier.
