HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Jedburgh Abbey.
Jedburgh Abbey survives as a substantially complete but roofless red sandstone church, retaining its Romanesque nave arcades, crossing tower, and later Gothic choir, along with fragments of the claustral buildings. It is a scheduled monument in the care of Historic Environment Scotland. The abbey ruins are open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Jedburgh Abbey
Jedburgh Abbey was founded around 1138 by King David I of Scotland for canons of the Augustinian order. It became one of the Border abbeys, repeatedly damaged and rebuilt during centuries of Anglo-Scottish warfare, including English raids in the sixteenth century. The abbey served as a center of religious life and learning in the Scottish Borders until the Reformation.
