About James Holt, Texas Ranger
James Holt was a Texas pioneer born in Georgia who came to Texas around 1836. The Republic of Texas issued him a 1,280-acre land grant on Mill Creek on October 4, 1838, and he later served as postmaster of Vine Grove from 1851. Upon his death, his wife Mary succeeded him as postmaster.
