HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Jahili Fort.

The fort preserves its mudbrick and stone perimeter walls, corner towers, and a central round watchtower, restored using traditional materials and building techniques. It is maintained by Abu Dhabi's cultural heritage authority and houses a permanent exhibition on the explorer Wilfred Thesiger. The fort is open to the public, with its courtyard and restored rooms freely accessible without a guided tour requirement.

About Jahili Fort

Jahili Fort was built in the late nineteenth century by the ruling Al Nahyan family to defend Al Ain's oasis and palm groves and to serve as a royal residence. In the twentieth century it served as a base for British-officered Trucial Oman forces. It anchored the defense of the oasis and its date-growing economy.
