HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Irish Museum of Modern Art (Royal Hospital Kilmainham).

The building preserves the seventeenth century Royal Hospital, a large formal quadrangle with an arcaded courtyard and chapel modeled on continental precedents, restored for use as a museum. It is owned by the Irish state and managed by the Office of Public Works, housing the Irish Museum of Modern Art's collection. The building and its galleries are open to the public, with general admission free of charge.

About Irish Museum of Modern Art (Royal Hospital Kilmainham)

The Royal Hospital Kilmainham was built in the 1680s by order of King Charles II as a retirement home and hospital for veteran soldiers of the Irish army, modeled on Les Invalides in Paris. It housed disabled pensioners for nearly two and a half centuries. In 1991 the building was repurposed to house Ireland's collection of modern art.
