HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Ingapirca.

The site preserves the elliptical Temple of the Sun built of finely fitted Inca masonry atop Cañari foundations, along with surrounding storehouses, a cistern, and a stretch of the Inca road, all standing as original stonework rather than reconstruction. It is administered by Ecuador's Ministry of Culture and Heritage as the country's principal Inca archaeological site. Access is by ticketed entry, with guided tours available.

About Ingapirca

Built under the Inca Empire in the fifteenth century atop an earlier Cañari settlement, Ingapirca combined a sun temple with storehouses and lodging for travelers. Its elliptical Temple of the Sun aligned with astronomical events tied to Inca religious observance. The complex functioned as a religious and administrative outpost on the Inca road system.
