About Independence Cemetery

This cemetery served as a burial ground for the rural community around Shiro in Grimes County, Texas, with interments beginning in the nineteenth century as settlers established farms and small congregations in the area. It held the graves of local families, including early settlers and their descendants. It remained in use as a community burial site for area residents.
