About In Memory of_Colonel Benjamin Fort Smith_and all other pioneers
This monument, erected in 1936, commemorates pioneers of the area, including veterans of the War of 1812 and the Black Hawk War, delegates to Texas's early conventions, and signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. It honors men who fought at the Alamo and San Jacinto during the Texas Revolution. The monument preserved the memory of Republic-era settlers.
