HISTORIC PRESERVATION at IFAN Museum of African Arts.

The museum holds extensive ethnographic collections of West African masks, wooden and bronze sculpture, textiles, and everyday ritual objects assembled over the course of the twentieth century, displayed in a purpose-built exhibition building rather than any historic monument. It operates under Senegal's Institut Fondamental d'Afrique Noire, part of Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar. The museum is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About IFAN Museum of African Arts

French colonial administrators founded the Institut Français d'Afrique Noire in Dakar in 1936 as a research institute for African ethnography, with Théodore Monod as an early director. Its collections grew to include masks, sculpture, and artifacts gathered from across West Africa. The institute later opened its collections as a public museum for African art and archaeology.
