About Idaho City Historic District
Prospectors founded Idaho City in 1862 during the Boise Basin gold rush, and it grew into one of the largest towns in the Pacific Northwest, built around mining claims and saloons. Gold production drew thousands of miners within its first years, making it a center of Idaho Territory's early economy. As the gold rush faded, the population declined.
