HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Hospicio Cabañas, Guadalajara.

The Hospicio Cabañas preserves its extensive complex of courtyards, arcades, and the central chapel, notably decorated with José Clemente Orozco's mural cycle including the Man of Fire on the chapel dome. It is administered by the municipal government of Guadalajara through a cultural institute, and the complex is a World Heritage Site. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis as a museum and cultural center.

About Hospicio Cabañas, Guadalajara

Hospicio Cabañas was commissioned in the 1790s by Bishop Juan Cruz Ruiz de Cabañas and built in the early nineteenth century to shelter orphans, the elderly, the disabled, and the poor of Guadalajara. Designed with numerous courtyards, it functioned as a charitable hospice and orphanage for nearly two centuries. It became renowned for the Orozco murals added to its chapel.
