About Horatio Chriesman

Horatio Chriesman came to Texas from Kentucky in 1822 and served as surveyor for Austin's Colony from 1823 to 1836. He fought against Indian raids and served in Sam Houston's army during the Texas Revolution, later helping select the site of the Republic's capital in 1837. A Methodist leader and pioneer of Burleson County, he was buried here.

Colonial statesman, Methodist lay leader, pioneer in Burleson County. Came to Texas in 1822 from Kentucky. Had office of surveyor, Austin's Colony, 1823-1836; was a military officer in Indian conflicts and also army of Gen. Sam Houston during Texas War for independence; in 1837 served on commission to choose site of Capital, Texas Republic. Married first Mary Kincheloe; after her death, Augusta Hope.
