About Home of John Hoblett Seward
This house was built in 1855 of hand-sawed cedar as the home of John Hoblett Seward, 1822 to 1892, and his wife Laura Jane Roberts Seward, 1838 to 1920. It served as their family residence near Independence, Texas, during the mid-nineteenth century. The house represented the vernacular building practices of early Anglo-American settlers in the region.
