About Home of Ben Leaton
Ben Leaton was among the first Anglo-American farmers to settle in Presidio County, in far West Texas along the Rio Grande. In August 1848 he acquired an existing structure near the river, which afterward became known as Fort Leaton. The building's new name preserved Leaton's association with this early Anglo-American presence on the Texas-Mexico borderland.
