About the Seven Years War
The Seven Years War (1756–1763) was a global conflict combining European struggles over power and territory with British-French competition for overseas empire. Prussia and Britain opposed coalitions that included Austria, France, and Russia, although alliances and participation changed. The settlements preserved Prussia's hold on Silesia and greatly strengthened Britain's position in North America and India.
Geography of the Seven Years War
European fighting centered on central Europe, especially Silesia, Saxony, Bohemia, and the German states. Overseas theaters included North America, the Caribbean, India, and the Philippines, with campaigns against colonial cities, forts, and trading centers. Atlantic and Indian Ocean fleets connected these fronts and contested their supply routes. The North American fighting had begun in 1754, illustrating how regional wars merged into a conflict spanning several continents.
