About the Hussite Wars
The Hussite Wars (1419–1434) were conflicts between followers of the religious reformer Jan Hus and forces defending Catholic and imperial authority in Bohemia. Hussite armies resisted repeated crusading invasions before divisions within the movement produced a final struggle between moderate and radical factions. The moderate victory at Lipany opened the way to a negotiated religious and political settlement.
Geography of the Hussite Wars
The wars centered on Bohemia, in the present-day Czech Republic, with Prague and the Hussite town of Tábor serving as important centers. Campaigns also crossed into Moravia and neighboring regions of central Europe, including Silesia, Saxony, and Bavaria. Fortified towns, roads, and surrounding hills influenced the movement of armies and their defensive positions. Hussite wagon formations made careful use of terrain during battles against mounted opponents.
